This week on iTunes, iHeartRadio, Stitcher and Spreaker, STT talks sports nutrition with a local professor. Dr. Devon Dobrosielski is an assistant professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Kinesiology at Towson University. For over ten years he has been assessing cardiovascular function in humans in response to changes in diet and exercise; first, as a doctoral student at Louisiana State University and second, as a visiting assistant professor at Wake Forest University. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Dobrosielski was an Instructor in the Department of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he conducted diet and exercise clinical trials. He has secured funds through the Johns Hopkins Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center to study the impact of exercise and weight loss in older adults with obstructive sleep apnea. To date, Dr. Dobrosielski has published over 25 original research reports and over 50 scientific abstracts in top tier medical journals, including; Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, SLEEP, Atherosclerosis and the Journal of General Internal Medicine. He regularly reviews scientific manuscripts for Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise and SLEEP and has served as a scientific sessions chair at the American College of Sports Medicine annual meeting. In 2014, Dr. Dobrosielski was honored as a Junior Fellow by the Towson University Academy of Scholars to study the incidence of sleep apnea in collegiate football players. He teaches exercise physiology and research methods in exercise science and is passionate about promoting undergraduate scholarship.
