Your target heart rate high end and low end range will serve as a guideline during your workout routine. If you are new to exercise, it is best to begin at the lower end of your target heart rate zone. As you become more comfortable with your workout routine, pick up the pace slightly by keeping an eye on your heart rate monitor. If you are already fit and are in training for a competition, use the high end range of your heart rate zone.

If you are on medication, ask your doctor if the medication alters your heart rate. If it does, your doctor should be able to recommend what exercise intensity is the safest and most effective.

Keep in mind that your target heart rate zone should be used as a guideline. If you feel that you are pushing yourself too hard during a workout routine, listen to your intuition as well. Begin working out at a level that you are comfortable with and work your way up from there.
