The supplement industry is much less regulated than other food industries. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of leeway when it comes to the amount of information that the supplement industries can supply to their consumers. When the opportunity arises, it would be wise to pause before your next purchase and simply take a look at the back of your supplement container to see if you can figure out which ingredients your supplements are actually comprised of. Taking that a step further, it is very rare that you will find a supplement container that not only discloses all of their ingredients, but also discloses the exact amount of each ingredient.

This concept is an important one to understand because many companies are getting away with adding what are known as “fillers” into their two-pound tubs of protein powders and still calling it two pounds of complete protein powder. Some companies have even used non-dairy coffee creamer to make their protein powder taste better and to save money by filling up the tub with less of the expensive protein. Because companies are getting away with doing this time and time again, the consumer never truly knows how much of their one-scoop serving is actual protein and how much is just fatty and sugary “fillers”.
