Frank Wintrich

Frank Wintrich joined the Virginia football program as its Director of Human Performance and Logistics in January of 2016. Wintrich provides the Cavaliers with integrated short and long term physical preparation training. A highlight of this training is the implementation of the multi-year system of training known as P.A.D.S. This program incorporates a holistic approach to the development of athletes, ensuring the mastery of one skill before moving forward with the development of a more advanced skill.

Training begins with developing the minds of athletes through the utilization of the Self Aware Athlete program. This educational resource teaches athletes how to understand their bodies in order to better provide for their everyday physical and emotional needs. Performance Program Principles dictate athletes train safely, with a focus on strength development along with skills specific to their individual needs and most importantly developing the Warrior Mindset – a program established in conjunction with former USMC Force Reconnaissance Marines and PhDs in sport psychology.

Prior to BYU, he spent four seasons at North Texas as the director of football performance where he helped the Mean Green advance to their first bowl appearance in 10 years. He arrived in Denton from South Florida, where he was the associate director of strength and conditioning for three seasons for the Bulls, helping USF advance to three bowl games from 2008 to 2010.

Wintrich earned his bachelor’s degree in sports and fitness management from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 2002. While at KWC, Wintrich was nominated team captain two consecutive years and was a two-time All-American at linebacker.
