How many hours did you spend working on improving your speed this season? Think about the time spent on running mechanics, speed drills, over speed training, etc., etc. Now think for a second, how far do you typically sprint full speed on game day? Ever think about many times you had to stop on a dime, cut, and change direction? Was that emphasized in your athletic development program? Deceleration puts the body under a substantial stress and exposes athletes to the chance of injury when executed improperly. Whether it is speed development or vertical jump training, focus on the landing, cutting, and body mechanics to decrease your risk of injury as well as increase your performance on game day.
